Saving Hawai‘i's Coral Reefs: Scientists Can't Do It Alone

Marine ecology expert and 2021 Honolulu Scientist of the Year Dr. Mark Hixon is the featured speaker for the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa’s College of Natural Sciences Pilina ‘Ao “Living Links” online talk series Wednesday Oct. 26 at 2 p.m. Hawai‘i Standard Time (5 p.m. PDT, 8 p.m. EDT).

He will explain why conservation efforts to restore coral reefs and enhance their ability to withstand an ever-warming ocean are likely doomed unless all citizens reduce local stressors, including silt and fertilizer run-off, poor sewage disposal and overfishing.

Dr. Hixon is the the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa's Sidney and Erica Hsiao Endowed Professor of Marine Biology and chair of the Zoology Graduate Program
